Tattoo Time: A Tribute to Jason Momoa and Body Art

It’s Tattoo Time! Where we count down to the launch of TELESA by celebrating tattoos and the Polynesians who rock them. This week’s feature is NOT Samoan. But, he is Hawaiian – which means he’s a longlost Samoan cousin of someone somewhere because everyone knows that all Polynesians originated from the same homeland somewhere. (Drumroll please…) May I present for your tattoo viewing pleasure:
JASON MOMOA
He was born in Hawaii in 1979, of Native Hawaiian, German, Irish and Native American ancestry – and what a beautiful blend that turned out to be. (Please only look at the tattoo.)

In 1999, Jason won Hawaii’s “Model of the Year” and that same year, landed his first acting role in ‘Baywatch Hawaii.’ (Sorry, no tattoo in this picture but it was necessary for providing historical background.)

Jason was mainly known for his role as Ronon Dex in the sci-fi TV series ‘Stargate Atlantis’.(Please zone in on the tattood arm. Ignore everything else that sizzles.)

Jason is married to Lisa Bonet ( remember the Cosby Show?) and they have two children.

In 2008, Jason was attacked with a broken beer glass and needed over 140 stitches in reconstructive surgery. ( which could explain that dashing eyebrow. I am currently trying to figure out how I can convince the Hot Man to shave his eyebrow in a similar fashion.) His most recent role was as Khal Drogo in the scorching TV series ‘Game of Thrones.’ ( I myself have never seen the show, since I never watch R Rated tv. Ever. Ever. Ever.)

Next week, you will be able to see Jason’s tattooed self in action on the big screen as the star in Conan, a role he prepared for by undergoing a strict exercise regimen of 6hr daily workouts and sword training, so he “could move like a lion” when it came to wielding a sword.(Umm you need to close your eyes and imagine the tattoo in this one.)

More reasons why we love Jason Momoa’s tattoo.

And more reasons why we just love Jason Momoa, even if we can’t see his tattoo.

That’s all folks! Yay for loving Tattoos on Polynesians everywhere. (Even when we cant see them.)

  1. This comment focuses ONLY on the tattoo and not the other sizzling parts as you suggest 😛 I read an interview he gave for some Inking magazine and he defined what the tatt means – It is his 'aumakua, which is like a spiritual ancestor/god/protector. For his family the 'aumakua is a shark, hence the shark-teeth patterns on his arm. Therefore his cousins also have similar tatts.

  2. oh baby jesus! I think conan is going to be my favorite movie! I tried really hard to pay attention to his tattoo but he is some good eye candy and I just can not resist! lol. Can wait for the book to come out! YIPPPPEEE!

  3. That's a… really… nice… tattoo…LOL no but really, I love the simplicity of it. And forearms are such an underrated body part!Right-o, this comment sounds sleezy enough,Donna x

  4. I got through this whole blog and then at the end I was like what tattoo? And had to go back and look at it. I may have been slightly distracted by muscles. AHHHHH….yes, and the tattoo is very cool too.

  5. I really don't think I can think rationally for the rest of today after seeing J Momoa's ummm tattoo lol. Trust you to find the good pics…now I'm off to google some xrated ones haha.

  6. This is the first time I opened up my comments box and was hit by a slew of heated comments! woop woop…First, I want to give a very special award of Recognition to Elizabeth since SHE is the only one out of all you who read this post exactly in the artistic and culturally appreciative way that it was offered. Thank you E, for the neat info about Jason's tattoo and its symbolism. The shark factor really further emphasizes my appreciation for his tattoo. Now as for the rest of you shameless(lustful) lot…Im glad that I could liven and brighten up your day with a bit of Polynesian Perfection. Lilidonna, I too was entranced by the forearm position of the body art, a bit unusual and quite distinctive. Paige I have to confess that sadly, not ALL Polynesians look like Mr Momoa – but please do feel free to peruse the Manu Samoa rugby team line up thats playing in the World Cup in a few weeks as there are one or two fine Polynesians WITH tattoos there as well. Including one who is doing the photoshoot for the cover of my TELESA book…Umm CocoGirl when you find those Xrated pics, can you please pass them along to me? Strictly for tattoo research purposes, of course.

  7. I can never comment on your blog from my work computer. It sends me to a sign in page then again on the same thing over and over…and then I forget to comment when i get home..shammen.maybe its a sign..no checking blog at work..bhahaha..anyways..it's really hard to focus on that fine tattoo when there's a gazillion other zizzling stuff to focus on..hhhmmmm….

  8. As a girl who has 8 tattoos of my own I love original art but I just have to say that as hard as I try to look at his tat my eyes are force back to that amazing CHEST maybe if he gets one there I might actually get to look at on lmao

  9. *cough* tattoos? What tattoos? There are tattoos? where are these said tattoos? Oh hmmmm… Those tattoos? They're um nice i guess. But ummm………….wait what was i saying? I was distracted by…………..wait what?

  10. Kalofa e! I am an avid watcher of HBO's "Game of Thrones" where his character Khal Drogo was killed off in Season 1! Damn them! I really appreciate that this fine brother is very proud of his Hawai'i ancestry and proudly shows his tatau/ tattoo. It is a very Polynesian thing to share similar designs if not the exact same patterns with your close family/ relatives. I tried to see if his work was done by needle or the equivalent of hammer-mallet (sausau) and chisel-tattooing comb (au) … but it looks rather like needle work.

  11. So glad I found your blog! I'm linking back to you in an upcoming blog post because I used one of the above photos. I can't breathe when that man walks on screen. LOVE your tattoo series!

  12. Thanks for the visit Sophia. I too, find breathing rather difficult when Jason Momoa is on screen. Hes the main reason i loved Game of Thrones. (still wishing he would miraculously come alive again…)

  13. Lina I was DEVASTATED when Khal Drogo got killed. Im wishing and waiting for him to come alive again. I watched Conan just because of Jason but wasnt impressed with the movie. Jason was more than bearable to watch tho.

  14. It may seem like reconciliation is right around the corner and that you’re
only a few messages away from jumping back into his arms.
When this happens, you will be restricted to the price that the home builders will give you.
Hannah and Elijah match one another so much because they feed off
    of one another’s toxic narcissism.

  15. You’re so cool! I do not believe I have read through anything like that before.

So wonderful to discover someone with genuine thoughts on this
issue. Seriously.. many thanks for starting this up.

This web site is one thing that’s needed on the internet, someone with
    a little originality!
